Connections of Polydream are hoping she can bounce back to her best ahead of the defence of her crown in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.
Freddy Head’s filly claimed Group One glory in the Deauville showpiece last August, but has been beaten on each of her three starts since.
The daughter of Oasis Dream was disappointing when a hot favourite for the Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp last October, and could only finish sixth on her seasonal reappearance at Saint-Cloud.
She shaped more encouragingly when third behind James Tate’s British raider Hey Gaman on her latest outing in the Prix du Palais-Royal, but will undoubtedly need to raise her game if she is make her mark at the top level again.
Pierre-Yves Bureau, racing manager for Polydream’s owners the Wertheimers, said: “We are not sure how to assess her two races this year. The jockey (Maxime Guyon) has been saying she does not stay a mile, which is why we dropped her back to seven furlongs for her last run.
“We were a bit disappointed with her that day. I think the winner is a very good horse, but she should have finished a clear second.
“We’ll see what Freddy wants to do next, but I think he will try to make sure she is at her best for the Prix Maurice de Gheest again. That distance (six and a half furlongs) suits her very well.”
