Plans fluid for Mount Mews after Doncaster reverse

Mon 29 Jan 2018

Connections of Mount Mews will let the dust settle before deciding on their next move after the seven-year-old went down fighting at Doncaster on Friday.

Malcolm Jefferson's promising novice chaser was beaten half a length by the more experienced Wotzizname when tackling three miles for the first time.

He had made a winning debut over fences over two miles and three furlongs earlier this month at Doncaster.

Jefferson's daughter, Ruth, said: "He settled well and he jumped OK.

"He's a novice and was still a bit novicey. A mistake at the last probably cost us, I don't know, but he ran to the line.

"There were a few things to take out that were good. Long term, we will have to have a good think about it.

"We've given him enough chances at two (miles) and we thought a bit further would help."
