Placepot Pointers: Trust Vulcan to swoop to success at Nottingham

Wed 14 Oct 2020

By The Tote Team

Wednesday’s Placepot Pointers are at Nottingham who host a bumper card of Flat racing. The first six races make up the pool, where simply picking a horse to finish placed in each contest will secure Tote Placepot players a share of the dividend.

How’s the going?

The ground at Nottingham is described as Soft and although there is a little rain in the forecast on Wednesday, conditions will be as such - typical for this time of year. On a galloping track, it will be best to look out for stamina laden horses who handle some cut in the ground.

The Big Trend:

Top rider William Buick has a 50% strike rate at Nottingham this season and has ridden 13 winners from his 68 rides in the past fortnight. With five rides within the six-leg Tote Placepot pool, he appears to be the jockey to be with at the midlands track on Wednesday. His five rides are:

Leg 1 - 1:00 Adayar

Leg 2 - 1:30 Wootton Creek

Leg 3 - 2:00 True Courage

Leg 4 - 2:35 Kryptos

Leg 6 - 3:45 Al Raya

Placepot Banker:

VULCAN (2:35pm) has been in hot form on his last two outings, winning in game fashion over a mile at Haydock on 10 September, before sluicing up by seven lengths when stepped up to 1m2f at the same track last time. Harry Dunlop’s charge recorded a searing time on that latest romp and a 9lb rise in the weights shouldn’t be enough to stop him going very close again. Saffie Osborne’s full 7lb claim (could only claim 5lb last time) will help.

Outsiders to Consider:

Leg 3 - 2:00 - DISTINCTION

Karl Burke’s son of Kodiac didn’t show a great deal on his first two runs, but recorded a useful form figure in third at Musselburgh last month when going off at three-figure odds. An introductory handicap mark of 68 is fair and the horse might go well at rewarding odds.

Leg 5 - 3:10 - HOT SCOOP

Saffie Osborne has been mentioned as a talented jockey on this blog and she could call a handy tune out of Hot Scoop, now this horse is dropping back to 5f. Things haven’t panned out over six of late, but the horse remains fairly treated and may give backers a good run for their money. Torpedo Leg

The Listed Rous Stakes at 3:45pm (Leg 6) is a quality affair and a Group class sprint in all bar name. Having said that, we are at a twilight stage of the season and all of these campaigners have been on the go a long time and have had very busy seasons, so it is tricky to predict if any one of them could throw in the towel. Buick on Al Raya makes the cut for our perm based on the jockey’s recent and course form. But we’ll add one more to be sure of a place if making it this far in the pool. Tis Marvellous seems to be entering a consistent run and wasn’t beaten far by a top prospect last time out.

Our Placepot Perm:

Leg 1: 1 Leg 2: 5,10 Leg 3: 8,9 Leg 4: 1,3 Leg 5: 1,3 Leg 6: 5, 7

1 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32 lines
