A very busy start to the new week for racing fans with a whopping seven meetings across the UK and Ireland on Monday.

Amongst them will be the second meeting of the new season at Pontefract (13.00-16.00; seven races) which kickstarts the Monday action and is our Tote featured Placepot meeting.

Make sure you get your Placepot on at Pontefract the night before. With Early Bird Placepot Insurance available for those who place their bets before midnight, you'll get your cash back up to £10 if your bet goes down in the first race of the day. T&Cs apply.

The feature on the card is the RIU Hotels And Resorts Handicap over the flying five-furlongs at 13:30 (Leg 2) and conditions at the Yorkshire venue are set to be 'Good to firm-good in places' for Monday's card.

The Big Trend:

Following the betting market has proved a good tactic for punters at Pontefract in the last 12 months, with 50 per cent of favourites obliging at this circuit (84-168). That's a well above average return for favourite-backers and Placepot players will be keen to get the right market leaders on side with a few short prices likely to appear as the afternoon wears on.

DAPPER MAN (15:00, Leg 5) is one that should fit the bill. Roger Fell's son of Dandy Man was on the scoreboard at Ripon four days ago, leading from trap to line in a decisive success. That win came in an apprentice contest and so he escapes a penalty here, giving him an outstanding chance of adding to his previous 2019 C&D win - which was gained from a 5lb higher mark.

Placepot Banker:

She ultimately came out of her juvenile campaign a maiden but SCARLET BEAR (15:30, Leg 6) kept some elite company in five starts along the way.

All bar her debut third at Haydock came in Group-race company and she was twice placed in Group 3s at Salisbury (6f, good) and Ayr (6f, good to soft) in September behind the likes of Happy Romance and Umm Kulthum, a duo that would later finish third and fourth in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. The daughter of Kodi Bear has switched to the William Jarvis team over the winter and returns to action in a Class 5 Fillies' Novice Stakes where she should prove too good for her rivals.

Outsiders to Consider:

Positives can be taken from COTE D'AZUR's (14:30, Leg 4) recent comeback on the all-weather at Newcastle where he tried to make all before fading late. He did something not dissimilar last summer on his return before going very close on turf at Beverley next time. He's now rated 6lb lower than he was there and has dipped to what represents a dangerously low mark relative to best turf form.

Just six runners contest the feature event and perhaps MONDAMMEJ (13:30, Leg 2) is going to command a small enough share of the betting pool. Venturous arrives in fine form and joins former winner Mokaatil as solid contenders but Anthony Brittain's gelded son of Lope De Vega has shaped well in all-weather sprints since a winning debut at Newcastle in November. He needs to improve switched to grass but that's possible and he's got a feather weight to carry if he does.

Torpedo Leg:

WEMYSS POINT (14:00, Leg 3) has shown some solid all-weather form this spring and his only career win on the Flat came here in this race in 2018. Conditions are firmer now and it's worth pointing out he was tailed off in his only other run here soon after that win on quick ground. He's on a workable mark but Warranty looks a massive danger on his first Flat run for Harry Whittington, while Red Tornado shaped well on comeback here this month and should go well upped in trip today.
