Placepot Pointers: Rely on Lincoln Park giving good account at Haydock

Thu 3 Sep 2020

The Betfair Sprint Cup is the feature race of the weekend at Haydock on Saturday but before that the Lancashire venue plays host to another competitive card on Friday.

Below we highlight some handy pointers to help get you ahead of the Placepot pool.

The going at Haydock Park was soft, heavy in places on Thursday. More showers are expected in the area, so having horses who enjoy a bit of cut will be beneficial.

RICHARD KINGSCOTE remains profitable to follow at Haydock. He has ridden eight winners at the track already this year and REPETITIO (2:20pm) can guide us through Leg 1 with the jockey up. Nigel Hawke’s charge is a Placepot friendly horse of late, placing on his last three starts, including a second here two runs ago.

Michael Appleby’s LINCOLN PARK (Leg 6, 4:55pm) finished half a length behind Beat Le Bon over this course and distance last July and is 5lb lower now, but continues to hold his form well. He’s also 1lb lower than when finishing a good third behind Greenside here this season. The 3lb claim of Theodore Ladd negates the weight further and this consistent type looks sure to give Placepot players a good run for their cash in the final leg.

AFANDEM (Leg 4, 3:50pm) couldn’t get into it at Beverley last time out and may just be in the grip of the handicapper. But Tim Easterby’s charge has been dropped a couple of pounds now and is capable of running ahead of this mark under the right conditions. Really soft ground might be an issue, but the track should suit and he’s likely to be a good price.

Leg 3 at 3:20pm only has the ten runners and three places are up for grabs, but it is a quality field and a tricky race to get a grip on. With some good recent form on offers and others needing to turn a corner, it might just pay to have a couple of horses on side. BIELSA has had a wind operation since last time and is interesting under Silvestre De Sousa. DAZZLING DAN is finding it tough from his mark, but Pam Sly’s charge rarely runs a bad race and should be suited by conditions. Hopefully both can make their presence felt.
