A fantastic day of racing lies in store on a Tote sponsored card at Goodwood. The Tote Placepot paid £642 to a £1 stake last time the Sussex track hosted racing and we’re expecting another bumper payout today.

How’s the going?

It’s been a wet and windy week and the conditions on the South Downs will reflect that with the ground likely to be testing. Goodwood is a tricky course at the best of times and it usually benefits to back horses likely to be ridden handy and, with plenty of juice underfoot, stamina could come into play.

The Big Trend:

Harry Bentley has been having a fantastic time of things at Goodwood this season. He’s had eight winners at the track from just 26 runs, backing out at 31% strike rate. Perhaps more impressively, those winners have returned £44.23 profit when betting at SP.

He has two rides on the card - FARASI LANE (Leg 3, 2:25) and ELEGANT LIGHT (Leg 4, 2:55). The former showed plenty of promise on debut before disappointing on his next two starts but he was much better last time out. He went down by just half a length at Newbury following a gelding operation and there could be more to come from Tom Ward’s charge who has a featherweight of 8st 5lb on his back here.

Outsider to Consider:

The feature October Fillies’ Stakes (Leg 4, 2:55) looks an open contest with the top of the market dominated by horses who are potentially a little exposed at this level. It therefore could be worth siding with something who could improve.

BIMBLE won his maiden here and followed up with two placed efforts in decent handicaps. She travels like a good horse but maybe lacks a little tactical speed, so a strong gallop over 7f could suit her right down to the ground.

Torpedo Leg:

Leg 5 is a tricky 14-runner handicap and there are plenty in here who look like they may have a chance.

THE LAMPLIGHTER looks a solid selection who comes here in search of the hat-trick. He scored over course and distance last time and is a wonderfully consistent sort having only finished outside the places on twice on seven starts this year.

With form figures of 2222, EYE OF THE WATER must have been frustrating for win bettors to follow, but has certainly been a friend to the Placepot player. His Topspeed figure of 82 last time out looks strong in this field and he’s capable of getting competitive off a mark of 81.

Our Placepot Perm:

Leg 1: 1, 2, 8 Leg 2: 1, 3 Leg 3: 6 Leg 4: 3, 4 Leg 5: 10, 12 Leg 6: 5

3 x 2 x 1 x 2 x 2 x 1 = 24 lines
