Thursday’s Placepot Pointers are at Wincanton, where there is a fascinating National Hunt card on show.

The action gets under way from 2.10pm and we are out to pick a horse to place in each of the first six races to take away your share of the pool.

How’s the going?

There has been a lack of rain over the last few days at Wincanton, so the ground has been declared as Good to Firm, Good in places. There is due to be a bit of sun with temperatures of 14 degrees.

The Big Trend

Harry Cobden seems to have a lot of success at Wincanton with 15 wins from 39 rides in the 2019-20 season. That strike rate of 38% is something to keep in mind when selecting your placepot picks, especially given the hot form of Paul Nicholls. He has a further three rides today at Wincanton all three are included within the Placepot races.

Leg 2 - 2:45 Princess Midnight

Leg 3 - 3:20 Celestial Force

Leg 5 - 4:30 Lillington

GET BACK GET BACK (3:55, Leg 4) is involved in an interesting Class 3 handicap hurdle over two miles, where it could be between him and Shirrocan Roll. We are going to go for the Harry Fry five-year-old. He has won two of his last three races and continues to improve gradually with every run. A 4lb weight rise from his recent Plumpton win is more than fair and the 5yo looks set for a big say under the assured hands of top jockey Sean Bowen.

Outsiders to Consider

Leg 1 - 2:10 - TALK OF FAME

He should strip a lot fitter for his two outings this year. A third at Southwell and a respectable fifth at Warwick can be built on this time. Kim Bailey and David Bass team up yet again and any sort of improvement could be enough for a place here.

Leg 2 - 2:45 - DIDO

The gelding is a point-to-point specialist who has finally had a break with a move to Alexandra Dunn’s yard. He won six times and placed a further 14 times with Dale Peters and as long as he takes a step up in quality quickly, this could be the perfect time to strike with a win.

Torpedo Leg

Moon Of Baroda is bound to be very well-backed in the fourth leg of the Placepot, however being 22 lengths back on his first outing this season is not overwhelming. There are only four runners in the race meaning there is only one place up for grabs. CELESTIAL FORCE and DAVE AND BERNIE (3:20, Leg 3) are the two to side with. They have had multiple outings this season and should strip a lot fitter for that.
