We begin a new week with a tough and competitive card of Flat racing at Haydock Park.
Negotiating a path through the six-leg Placepot pool won’t be easy, but there could be a nice dividend to look forward to. Check out our handy pointers ahead of the action at the Lancashire venue.

How's the Going?
The ground at Haydock is described as Good, Good to firm in places. The stalls will be in the centre over 5f, 6f, 1m2f & 1m4f and on the inside over 7f & 1m.
The Big Trend:
RICHARD KINGSCOTE is the jockey to follow at Haydock Park. In recent years, you’d have made a £67.02 profit backing him blind to SP alone, with 72 winners from 382 (19%) runners in that time. A further 97 of those horses finished second or third and in 2020, Kingscote has been true to form and profitable to follow once again.
He has rides in two Placepot legs on Monday:
2:45 (Leg 3) - SOLENT GATEWAY
3:45 (Leg 5) - THE NU FORM WAY
SOLENT GATEWAY (Leg 3, 2:45pm) has finished second on his two outings in juvenile races to date. In a race stacked with unknown quantities, his experience stands out a mile, especially with Richard Kingscote booked to ride.
It could turn out that one of the debutants will be sharp enough on debut, or that the likes of Al Saariyah or Mister B could progress. But Solent Gateway was good on the clock in defeat here over the course and distance last time out and he looks booked for a place at the very least.
Outsider to Consider:
INCOGNITO (Leg 6, 4:15pm) runs for the Ed Walker barn, which has hit a bit of form in recent days and, although a likely outsider here, the booking of the hot William Buick definitely catches the eye. This Elusive City filly didn’t quite get home over a mile last time out, so this immediate drop back to 7f is a positive. She’s still a maiden, but could go well here on her tenth career start.
POWER PLAYER (Leg 1, 1:45pm) hasn’t shown a great deal in recent starts and will be a big price here for the Ruth Carr stable. However, a drop in trip could bring out some improvement today, his mark is tumbling and his form at the backend of 2019 would entitle him to boast half-decent place claims here under his 7lb apprentice.
The first two races at Haydock are divisions one and two of the same ten furlong handicap for apprentice jockeys. Opening with a pair of competitive handicaps make for a tough start to the pool. In the 2:15pm, Tony Carroll’s ELEGANT LOVE seems a solid option to hit the frame. She finished third over the course and distance last time out, has been dropped a pound by the handicapper and this race looks to be a little easier. Kevin Frost’s MANFADH is also in the mix if stripping fit first time out under the excellent Thor Hammer Hansen.
