Petticoat Tails to miss Cheltenham in preference for Newbury

Tue 20 Feb 2018

Petticoat Tails will swerve an outing at the Cheltenham Festival in favour of a shot at the EBF and TBA 'National Hunt' Mares' Novices' Hurdle Finale at Newbury on March 24.

Trainer Warren Greatrex has earmarked the Grade Two contest as the main aim for the six-year-old as opposed to the Trull House Stud Mares' Novices Hurdle at Prestbury Park.

Greatrex said: "She will go to Newbury now for the mares' final. I think the track and the trip will suit her. Hopefully she will be competitive off a mark of 122."

He added: "She has just taken a bit of time, but she is young and we have minded her and hopefully we will reap the rewards, not only this season but the next as well.

"The Newbury race is a good pot in its own right. We will look after her and see what is about after that."
