Paul Mulrennan believes the “plum draw” of stall one gives Final Venture every chance of landing the big $250,000 sprint in Qatar on Saturday.
The Group Three Dukhan Sprint, sponsored by Breeders’ Cup, is one of the highlights of the two-day HH Emir Sword Festival, which starts on Friday.
The five-furlong race, with $142,500 to the winner, has attracted 12 runners, including fellow British raiders, Caspian Prince, Gulliver and Intisaab.
Final Venture has run twice at Meydan this year, including a good fourth to Ertijaal, and once at Newcastle, under Mulrennan, where the pair were beaten a half-length by Caspian Prince.
“He had a nice break from September to January so Paul Midgley has freshened him up and he’s been in great heart this year,” Mulrennan told Racinguk.com.
“He rarely runs a bad race and he’s definitely capable of winning at this level. He clearly likes the warmer climate as he’s always run well at Meydan, winning twice there last year, and the ground will be perfect.
“He’s got the plum draw in one, which is ideal, and there will be plenty of pace which will really suit him. He’ll have as good a chance as any in the field and it’s nice to be asked to ride him at Qatar’s biggest meeting.
“I have heard a lot about the racing out there and can’t wait to get my first taste of it on Saturday.”
Final Venture is joined in the race by fellow British raiders Caspian Prince (stall 5), Gulliver (12), and Intisaab (7).
The Dukhan Sprint is part of a six-race card in Qatar on Saturday.
