Page Fuller's Royal Ascot day 3 tips: selections based on RaceiQ data

It was only two weeks ago that we watched Whirl go down on her shield in the Oaks, and today the horse that was runner up to her in the Musidora has her first try over 1m4f in the Ribblesdale Stakes (15:40).

Serenity Prayer only has the two starts to her name, but considering how the form of her second in the Musidora has worked out, she sets the standard for me.

She looks very straightforward, with a likeable win at Newbury in April, followed by her game second at York last month.

The Musidora was fairly strongly run, but even so, Serenity Prayer lacked the pace of the winner over 1m2f. Her Top Speed of 38.54 mph was the slowest of any runners in the race, and where Whirl was able to clock two sub 12 second furlongs half a mile from home, she could only manage one.

It’s clear that she stayed 1m2f well at York, and judging by how Whirl appreciated the step up to 1m4f, I think we will see at least as much improvement for her own step in trip. She also benefits from some extra time to get over that performance, so should come here spot on; fit and fresh.

The Hampton Court Stakes (17:35) is another exciting three year old contest, and I think the intermediate 1m2f distance provides the perfect opportunity for Jackknife to get back on track in pattern company.

His win on debut at Epsom in April was very impressive considering the steady tempo set. They went very steadily through the early stages, but only four of the nine runners in the race managed to quicken up enough to clock sub 11 second furlongs in the home straight. Jackknife was the only horse in the race to be able to clock two in a row.

His final two furlong time of 21.89 seconds was also the quickest final two furlong time of the whole meeting. It was even faster than the 5 furlong sprint that opened the card.

To top it off, his win time was very respectable, too. Normally, when races are run with steady early fractions, the time a race is won in is compromised, and we see race times far slower than our RaceiQ Par Time. However, on this occasion, Jackknife still managed to record a win time one second quicker than our Par Time, which is quite impressive from a debutant.

He showed signs of greenness in listed company next time, but stayed on strongly and will have learnt a lot from his experience. The way he hit the line suggests this 1m2f trip is tailor made for him as well.
