Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer Neil Mulholland celebrated his first Flat success of 2017 when Seven Clans bagged the Betway Middle Handicap at Wolverhampton.Without a win since losing his maiden status at Kempton in December 2015, the five-year-old set the record straight to initiate a double for winning rider Adam Kirby.Second when dropped into a claimer last time out, the son of Cape Cross stayed on well from the rear of the field on this occasion before striding on to register victory by three and a half lengths. The Limpley Stoke handler said of his 7-2 winner: "The blinkers helped him last time as he can be a bit lazy and the drop back into a claimer also probably helped his confidence."His hurdle runs didn't work out very well and I think that knocked his confidence. Adam gave him a great ride and hopefully he is on his way back again."Michael Attwater breathed a sigh of relief after Peachey Carnehan struck at the 10th time of asking in the 32Red.com Maiden Auction Stakes. After just being edged out at Lingfield, the 4-6 favourite justified his cramped odds to claim a two-length success and complete Kirby's brace.Attwater said: "He was unlucky not to win as a two-year-old. He was just touched off on New Year's Eve, but it was his first run after a break and we thought he might come on for it."My only concern was if the race was coming soon enough after his last one, but it was a fairly uncompetitive maiden and it looked the perfect opportunity."He is off a mark of 70 and is not overly big and I think it will be a stretch winning off that mark as I don't know if there is much left in the locker. Sometimes they can surprise you, so hopefully he will"The owners bred him and it was the first one they have bred that has won. Unfortunately they were not there, but I am sure they were watching."David Simcock's decision to lower Calling Out (4-1) in class was rewarded with a two-length victory in the Betway Conditions Stakes, while the Mick Easterby-trained Babouska (7-2) backed up her win at Newcastle with a short-head triumph in the £10 Free At 32Red.com Handicap.Cliff (5-6) bounced back from defeat on his previous two starts to get trainer Nigel Tinkler on the mark by adding to his win at the track last month, getting home by a head in the sunbets.co.uk Apprentice Handicap. The 32Red Casino Fillies' Handicap went the way of the Julie Camacho-trained Bint Arcano (3-1), with Tred Softly (9-2) clinching a career first win when claiming the Betway App Handicap by a head for John Quinn.
