Tom Thurgood of racingtv.com shares his tips for Ballinrobe and Windsor on Monday. Enjoy the Irish Flat card live on Racing TV.
6.05 Windsor: Treacherous
He posted his best effort of the campaign last-time out and, now below his last winning mark, can show up well in this sprint handicap.
Treacherous is now 3lb below his last winning mark and went close off 6lb higher over this course and distance less than 12 months ago. He carries 9st 3lbs here from the foot of the weights in a race with an each-way shape.
While we're dealing with a small sample size, the Ed De Giles yard is in good form after a quiet campaign last year - having sent out two recent winners and bouncing back to around the 10% strike-rate that the stable has achieved throughout its better recent seasons.
6.45 Balinrobe: Alhaajeb
If he bounces back from an underwhelming run last time he has claims in this tightly-knit handicap at early double-figure quotes.
Alhaajeb may not have enjoyed the soft surface at Cork last time but had been in decent form before that, winning at Gowran in decent style on his penultimate start and notably on his sole try over this extended 1m1f distance.
Talbot is consistent and modestly improving and very much respected, but he doesn’t look one to take a short price about given his overall profile while last-time out winner Church Mountain benefitted from a good and enterprising ride at Limerick and has to prove the trick again from 10lb higher in the handicap.
7.50 Ballinrobe: Secret Sea
Jockey Billy Lee can make it three from three aboard this course-and-distance winner.
Secret Sea travelled well when conceding weight all round in victory at Tipperary last time and in a manner which suggested that this 6lb rise in the weights is not beyond her, especially since market rival Merroir makes her belated return to action here from much higher in the handicap and may ideally want softer ground. Joseph O’Brien’s filly is also conceding 18lbs.
