David Menuisier rules out Irish Champion bid for Danceteria

Sat 10 Aug 2019

Danceteria will make his next start in Australia after connections decided against running in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

The four-year-old will join the first shipment of horses to head to Australia next month, with a view to using the Caulfield Stakes as a prep run for the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Running a respectable race in defeat in the Eclipse on his penultimate start, Danceteria provided Menuisier with his first ever Group One winner with victory last time out in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen in Munich.

Danceteria finished fourth in the Coral-Eclipse in July

Menuisier said: “Danceteria will not go to the Irish Champion Stakes, he will go straight to Australia.

“He will leave in mid-September on the first shipment with a view to run in the Caulfield Stakes, then the Cox Plate and he could also run in the Mackinnon Stakes.

“The problem with the Irish Champion Stakes is the quarantine for Australia starts the day before and if he goes for the Irish Champion Stakes, he misses the first shipment and he would then have to go straight for the Cox Plate.

“The owners would rather have a prep run with no pressure out there then go for the big race.”

Menuisier is also mulling plans for Thundering Blue after he worked over a mile before racing at Newmarket.

The Group Two winner, who swerved an outing in the Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock due to soft ground, sat in behind his lead horse before moving clear during the final two furlongs of the exercise.

The Juddmonte International Stakes at York, in which he finished third in 2018, and the Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga are his two possible options at this stage.

Menuisier added: “Since we decided not to go to Haydock, we need to do the right things and this was part of it. It was the first time Jason Watson had sat on him and we feel that he is now starting to peak.

“We know this horse loves York, but I’d say at this stage it is 50-50 if he runs in the Juddmonte. Hopefully we can make our minds up in the next couple of days.”
