Martin Dixon's Saturday tips: 25-1 and 16-1 shots look overpriced

A competitive opener to Goodwood's Saturday card but, at 25-1 at the time of writing, I'd recommend a small each-way bet on Incensed for local trainer Amanda Perrett.

This requires a career-best performance, admittedly, but I've noted this mare shaping well on a few occasions this year since returning from wind surgery, including on her most recent outing at Ascot when keeping on steadily from off a steady pace.

She's been placed twice at Goodwood previously, so handles the track well, and I think her optimum performances come when getting a strong pace to aim at on a fast surface.

That's the set up she gets here and, with a clear run through, I think she's capable of at least hitting the frame. 

On her first try at the minimum trip last time it seemed a bit of a shock to the system for Angel Summer and a tardy start cost her from getting more involved at the business end.

She was ridden by an apprentice that day, though, and I think Cieren Fallon will likely be more aggressive with her in the early part of the race and get her into a better position than she ended up in at Windsor.

The way she finished off that day certainly showed she is in good form and on a fair mark, and although there are some in-form horses against her, I'm not sure any of these are notably well-handicapped.

Angel Summer still has some upside as a sprinter and it's encouraging that her trainer Patrick Owens sent out a winner earlier this week, as he only has a small team of horses. 

It's over a year now since Thunder Wonder got his head in front, but that last success came off a mark of 92, so he's very well handicapped off 9lb lower here and his latest outing was much more encouraging. He finished strongly from out the back over this distance at Musselburgh, beaten only by a pair that were on the pace throughout.

He has a good draw to work in stall two and, although consistency hasn't been his strong suit recently, if he is in the same form as last time, the 16-1 available at the time of writing could be made to look a very big price.

His sole start at this track last year was better than the bare result as well, as he was quite badly hampered that day.
