Juvenile Watch: four to follow from bloodstock expert Johnny Hassett.

In his latest Juvenile Watch column, our man Ross Millar highlights his star performer of the week, a winner in waiting and chats to Johnny Hassett of The Bloodstock Connection, who shares four to follow from his 2026 consignment.

STAR PERFORMER

NIGHT IN VEGAS possibly lacked true 'wow factor' when winning on his debut at Ascot on Saturday, but earns this weeks accolade largely in part due to the virtually assured improvement his superb trainer Eve Johnson Houghton will find in this son of Lucky Vega.
He was comfortably the best in this six- furlong contest. He clearly knew his job well and travelled powerfully through the early furlongs, and when asked to quicken by jockey Charlie Bishop, he did briefly take a moment to respond, but finished with a strong effort and galloped powerfully to the line.
His yard have year on year punched above their weight at Royal Ascot and, if he heads there for the Coventry, he'll be of automatic interest, though there's plenty of time for another run yet.
Eve Johnson Houghton: victorious at Royal Ascot, the July Festival, Glorious Goodwood and the Irish Champions Festival last year.

FROM THE SALES GROUND

Johnny Hassett of The Bloodstock connection has marked our card with great success in the last three years, pointing us towards multiple winners each season. This year, he gives us four from his 2026 consignment that he feels are worth following.
Ulysses x Exceptional
At the Tattersalls Craven Sale we sold a nice filly by Ulysses out of Exceptional, who was a Listed winner. She made 140,000gns and was bought by two good judges, Adam Potts of BBA and Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock, on behalf of Kaduro Racing. She'll be trained by Donnacha O'Brien.
I'm confident she has the constitution and ability to be a Royal Ascot type. The speed she showed makes the Windsor Castle highly possible, though her pedigree means she's also eligible for the Chesham.
Deputy Vice (Mehmas x Second Glance)
Next stop was Doncaster for the Goffs Breeze-Up Sale. Here we sold a very pacy son of Mehmas to Matt Coleman acting on behalf of Rebecca Menzies.
Mehmas as a sire speaks for himself, as does damsire Galileo. I'll be disappointed if he's not up to winning plenty of races, he certainly won't be lacking any help from his trainer who's impressed with her handling of Adonius - unbeaten in three starts this season.
This colt is already named DEPUTY VICE and he'll be out soon enough. Watch out for him.

Arqana was our latest trip where we sold two fine horses:

Night Of Thunder x Sous Les Etoiles
Our Night Of Thunder filly breezed superbly, posting a top-ten time, and was popular throughout the sale. Out of Sous Les Etoiles, a winning daughter of Sea The Stars, her looks matched her pedigree.
She was secured by Ed Walker and will run in the colours of his big supporters TBT Racing. Her price of €600,000 was a good return for us so I must thank Amanda Skiffington, who recommended us to her at the yearling sales last year.
Ed Walker secured a filly by in-demand sire Night Of Thunder for €600,000 for TBT Racing.
Pinatubo x Belle D'Or
Our other filly a daughter of Pinatubo also delighted us with her breeze, and was another comfortably in the fastest ten breezers of the sale.
She fetched €300,000 and has gone to Paddy Twomey, a trainer I rate highly. There are no less than three Guineas winners on her page and I wish Paddy all the best.
Wouldn't it be great if she could make it four, she certainly has a chance as year on year one of the top-ten fastest at Arqana will show themselves to be a Group One horse.
We just have the Classic sale left where we offer three final lots. Our luck has run for us on the whole this year, but the global political climate has made it the toughest season I can remember.
As for a sire to watch out for I'd suggest Naval Crown, I liked plenty of his stock and he appears to be upgrading his mares, I'd be surprised if he didn't get plenty of winners.
Johnny Hassett's sire to watch Naval Crown: the Royal Ascot hero is available to breeders for just £9,000 at Darley's Kildangan Stud and has his first crop of runners this year.

WINNER IN WAITING

WONDERVISION (Jack Channon)
She finished third on her debut behind the more experienced Bint Archange (current favourite for the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot) despite showing very obvious signs of immaturity when asked for her effort in the closing stages.
This experience will surely bring her forward. Her dam Wonderworld was unraced, but has a fairly stout German pedigree, so she should stay further in time.
