The retirement of Ruby Walsh one week, Pat Smullen the next.

Horsemen pass by but it is hard to get the head around two of the greatest jockeys we have seen calling time within a few days of each other, harder again that both are intent on working in the media!

It is a packed weekend in Ireland, with four meetings, including some key trials at Leopardstown.

It is also the start of a Festival at the beautiful Killarney.

2.40 Killarney: Pearl Of The West

Pearl Of The West wins at Punchestown

Elimay landed a gamble at Punchestown but the trip seemed key to her then and Pearl Of The West, rather Flat-bred, may have too much toe for her here. She was brilliant when winning at the same festival.

3.15 Killarney: La Sorelita

Conor McNamara, claiming 7lb, can help to offset La Sorelita being 2lb out of the handicap.

She traded short in-running for most of her run at Ballinrobe before another excellent effort at Punchestown. There should be more to come.

4.35 Leopardstown: Whitsunday Islands

Whitsunday Islands is by Australia and it could be a big day for the sire with Buckhurst, another of his progeny, running in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial.

Blinkers seemed to help this horse at Dundalk and he is unexposed at the distance.
