Johnny Ward's Irish Angle: Lion ready to roar at the Curragh on Sunday

The improbable win of High Definition lit up the Curragh on Saturday, and Sunday’s card is arguably better plus the ground was drying out quite a bit on Saturday.

Conditions will suit my selections, and the value bet on the card runs in the last. Be lucky.

2.30 Curragh: Breakfast Club at a general 4-1

Denis Hogan can showcase his amazing prowess with sprinters this term in the shape of Breakfast Club, who can take this Premier Handicap under Colin Keane.

Hogan may have lost Sceptical, but he still has Make A Challenge; Lady Princess took the Blenheim during the week; and Breakfast Club is no back number.

He is another horse procured by owner James McAuley for small money: he cost 7,500 guineas at the sales last month, only to win easily on his Irish debut at Cork, beating stablemate Bahlwan.

This is much tougher, but he looked like he had buckets in hand at Cork and that can't really be said for any of his rivals.

4.15 Curragh: Sea The Lion at a general 7-1

It was interesting that Heffernan opined after Order Of Australia's all-out win at Dundalk that a mile might suit the colt better, which few watching would have agreed with on the evidence of that race.

He steps up to 12 furlongs here and, if Heffernan is right, Sea The Lion may well out-stay the favourite.

He is really solid, stays well and is big enough at 7-1 in a race in which few can be given a chance.

5.20 Curragh: Acari at 14-1 with Bet365

The bet of the day at the prices is Acari who looked to get bogged down on the ground when initially moving well at Galway.

He is a much bigger price here, won over the course and distance around a year ago, will love the ground and has dropped in the weights, so there are plenty of positives.
