Johnny Ward's Irish Angle: Bread And Butter looks tasty proposition

The Order of Malta has been put on stand-by by the National Ambulance Service to assist the Irish government and health service when needed, but as of yet, they have not been called on, so it has confirmed its commitment to support Irish racing until, if and when, the situation changes.

It could be a case of enjoying racing while it lasts, starting with Thurles on Saturday, then Downpatrick on Sunday and Naas signalling the start of the Flat on Monday.

Sunday selections:

1.40 Downpatrick: Vinnie Is Busy

Charles Byrnes has targeted Downpatrick in the past and this horse has a good chance if jumping fluently, despite not setting the world alight last time, having won on his debut in a bumper.

The stable's runners are in good form too.

2.40 Downpatrick: Bread And Butter

Gavin Cromwell was out of luck at Cheltenham, but his runners fared well enough. This lightly-raced horse did very little wrong at Gowran Park when just finding the favourite too good. He can go one better here, with the stiff finish likely to suit.

3.40 Downpatrick: Yeats Mardy

This mare has not been with Gavin Cromwell for long. She is modest but she may be a nice price here on her second start for the yard.

On the pick of her efforts for Eoin Doyle, she can go well.

4.40 Downpatrick: Ballyadam

A smashing prospect, it was a surprise that he was beaten on debut, but the form has worked out well and it is not as though he was disgraced. He should win this.

Saturday:

3.10 Thurles: Dunvegan at 9-1 with Bet365

A very backable price at 9-1. He was only 100-30 in a race won by Cash Back at Naas last time, despite it seeming clear at this stage that he needs to go right-handed.

He has more than enough ability to go close here at a track that should suit, with classy stablemate Castlegrace Paddy winning well last weekend.

3.40 Thurles: Wrong Direction at a general 6-1

This horse was sent off just 6-1 in a notably strong staying handicap on his last start in handicap company.

He did not get home on that occasion and was a shade disappointing last time, but it hardly needs repeating that he looks thrown in off a rating of 114 having finished so close to It Came To Pass at Cork in November.

4.10 Thurles: Hotel Du Nord at 12-1 with Bet365

Hotel Du Nord finished ahead of Dortmund Park at Leopardstown and that rival is not easy to have much faith in right now, while Max Dynamite has been beaten 20 lengths or more on his recent chase starts.

Jessica Harrington's runner shaped well at Leopardstown and it is significant that Robbie Power takes over.
