John and Thady Gosden Glorious Goodwood 2026 Stable Tour

John and Thady Gosden have their string in top form going into this year’s Qatar Goodwood Festival.
The Clarehaven handlers, who are operating at a strike rate of 26 per cent for the season and over 40 per cent over the past two weeks, will be strongly represented throughout all the major races on the Sussex Downs yet again next week, with the duo set to saddle a typically strong team of horses over the five-day meeting. Thady Gosden gives us the lowdown on their formidable squad.
DANIELLE
Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes - Saturday
Danielle won the Bronte Cup on her seasonal debut last time.
Of our entries in this race, she is the likeliest runner. She ran well at York last time out [when winning the Group Three Bronte Cup].
She goes well with cut in the ground but equally, has run good races on better ground too.
She has been very consistent and is another who gives 120 per cent every day, and loves her training and racing.
FRENCH MASTER
Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup - Tuesday
He ran over a marathon trip in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot last time and ran a huge race there to finish second. He should appreciate this drop back down to two miles. It is a tough ask, but we know he stays, and is in good form.
FRIENDLY SOUL
Qatar Nassau Stakes - Thursday
Friendly Soul ran a very nice race at Ascot, but didn't really have a smooth trip round, getting stuck on the rail in a big field.
She has come out of that race very well, and the mile and a quarter here should suit. She's won the Opera over this trip and the step back up in distance should play to her strengths, whilst she should have the speed for the Goodwood track. She is a top-class athlete.
She is taking on younger horses for the first time this year, but is proven at the level and I'm sure she will run a nice race.
It was an incredibly sporting decision to not retire her by her owner Mr Strawbridge, who bred her. She's from one of their top foundation families and it is rare to see a mare with that quality on her page. She is the fourth Group One winner out of her dam [In Clover] and we hope that the decision [to keep her in training] works out.

HKJC World Pool Handicap Stakes - Thursday
He won quite cosily at Kempton on his first run of the year. Things didn't work out at Haydock after that, but he won last week over an extended mile at Wolverhampton, just getting up on the line [on his first run since being gelded]. He seems to have improved for that and is in good order.
HARMONICS
Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap - Thursday
Harmonics was eighth in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot, but you're straight into the bend there over a mile and a quarter. In a big field, it is rough race and, unfortunately, he was on the wrong end of the roughness there.
He stayed on well in the straight but it was an impossible task given what happened earlier on at Swinley Bottom. He came out of the race well, is in good order and has been working well.
MORRIS DANCER
HKJC World Pool Thoroughbred Stakes - Friday
Godolphin's Morris Dancer was second to Zavateri in the Vintage Stakes at last year's Glorious Goodwood.
He ran a great race at Royal Ascot in the Jersey after a long layoff [finishing third]. He had a hard race there after a layoff and [didn't perform] running straight after on the July Course.
He was staying on very well over the seven furlongs at Ascot and the form has worked out well so this easier mile at Goodwood should really suit him well.
TRAWLERMAN
Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup - Tuesday
It’s not easy running at Ascot over two and a half miles for your first run of the year, he ran a huge race, giving 1lb away [to winner Scandinavia].
He’s come out of it very well and has been in fantastic form since. It’s a track he hasn't run at for a long time; he hasn’t run there since he was four where he won over 1m6f in a handicap, but he goes there in good order, and two miles should suit him well.
He seems to have taken a step forward [from his first run of the season] and he has gone up there in great form with his goggles on, which he wears every day and seems to quite like!
It is fantastic to have a horse like him with the mentality he has for Godolphin, who bred him. He has had issues through the years but is mentally so resilient. He must have been up Warren Hill thousands of times by now, but he is up here every day like it is first time here enjoying it.
He had a hard race in the Gold Cup, but he was up here two days later bucking and squealing, and wanting to do a bit more. He’s a quite rare example of where you don’t really need to do anything different to keep him interested - he’s always up for it and enjoying it.

VALEDICTORY
Highclere Castle Gin Summer Handicap Stakes - Saturday
John Gosden spoke to Racing TV after Valedictory won at the July Festival.
He ran a nice race to win over the same course and distance the time before last, but it was a bit closer at Newmarket last time.
We did have him in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting over two and a half miles. It was probably a good decision not running him there. He's by Cracksman out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare with a nice staying pedigree, but the two and a half miles at Ascot would probably have been a step too far at this stage of his career.
He's up 2lb [to a mark of 95], but the return to the mile and three quarters at Goodwood should suit him well and he keeps improving.
He'll need a pretty good penalty to get into the Ebor but we'll see how he runs and what the handicapper does first, and go from there.
YAZIN
HKJC World Pool Thoroughbred Stakes - Friday
We are pointing towards the same race as Morris Dancer with Yazin. Sandown didn't quite suit him last time [in the Heron Stakes] but this track should.
Before that latest run he looked a promising colt and he has plenty of ability.
