Irish Guineas likely next port of call for Gstaad

Gstaad could seek Classic compensation in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas following his near miss in the Newmarket equivalent last week.
The son of Starspangledbanner was the only horse to give Bow Echo something to think about in the closing stages of the Rowley Mile showpiece, but ultimately was no match for George Boughey’s charge who ran on to win by nearly three lengths.
A rematch with Bow Echo may have to wait until Royal Ascot, with the attentions of Aidan O’Brien’s Breeders’ Cup hero now turned to the Curragh on May 23.
Paul Smith, son of Coolmore’s Derrick Smith, said: said: “He’s well and has come out of the Newmarket race well.
“They’re very happy with him at home and they’re looking at the Irish Guineas. There’s options around there, but that would be the target and he’s been in super form since the race.”
Gstaad may have just fallen short of securing Classic honours at Newmarket, but True Love would prove victorious 24 hours later when scooping the 1000 Guineas in impressive fashion.
A Royal Ascot winner like her stablemate, the daughter of No Nay Never is another who could now head to the Curragh in a bid to quickly double her big-race haul.
Smith added: “She has those mile options and you could drop her back to seven if you wanted to.
“She could go for the Irish 1,000 Guineas, but there’s plenty of options for her so we’ll see where they want to go with her.”
