Hugo Palmer keen to get Architecture back to winning ways

Hugo Palmer is leaning towards dropping Architecture down in both class and trip for a tilt at the The Join Club Godolphin Pride Stakes at Newmarket later this month.

Although the four-year-old holds an entry in the Qipco British Champions Fillies' & Mares' Stakes at Ascot, the Newmarket handler is favouring an outing in the mile-and-a-quarter Listed contest on October 13 instead.

The daughter of Zoffany, who finished second in last year's English and Irish Oaks, finished a respectable third on her long-awaited seasonal comeback in a Group Three at Newbury last month.

Palmer said: "She ran a massive race at Newbury. I thought she would run well and might not win, and it is fair to say that is what she did.

"The plan is to go to Newmarket for the mile-and-a-quarter fillies' Listed race. She is unlikely to go to Ascot.

"She has been campaigned over a mile and a half as that is the Classic distance. She ran over a mile-three last time and, in an ideal world, I would like to run her over that trip again but there are not many races over that trip.

"She is a strong-travelling filly and I don't see her having any problems over a mile and a quarter. She has to win a stakes race now but the plan is to keep her in training for next year."

The Newmarket handler has earmarked an outing in the Craven Stakes as a potential starting point for White Mocha, who made it two wins from three starts in a conditions contest on his latest outing.

Palmer added: "We are absolutely thrilled with what White Mocha has done this year, he's a big horse and he's out of a very stoutly-bred family, so he firmly comes into consideration for next year's Investec Derby.

"He's done nothing wrong, winning two of his three starts and came second in the other, and he will be starting off in something like a Craven Stakes next year, with the 2000 Guineas and the Derby very much on his agenda, so that would be really exciting."
