Dave Nevison tipped a 12-1 winner on Wednesday and is keeping his fingers crossed for Betfair Super Saturday, as he believes a 50-1 chance is worth a second-look in the feature £125,000 Betfair Hurdle. Before that, our website tipster has two picks for you from Kempton on Thursday, live on Racing TV.
Unfortunately it now looks as though the Newbury highlight may not happen this weekend, but it does look as though the meeting might be rescheduled over the coming days.
I don’t fancy myself going in too too strongly on my ‘jumpers' bumpers’ bets, but I feel that David Pipe might have one at a big price in the Betfair Hurdle so I’ll start with that one first.
This looks well worth a small bet at massive 50-1 odds.
He was definitely disappointing on his reappearance in December, but he came on a lot for his first run last season and I had him down as a horse with a future after his juvenile hurdling season.
Night Edition wouldn’t be this price if he had got a length closer when runner-up in the 22-runner Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Festival, and he might well have been unlucky not to do so. He may just have started his progress a little too late and couldn’t overhaul the winner, but he showed he could handle a very big field in a competitive handicap very well. Five-year-olds have a very good record in this handicap and he looks on a manageable mark of 133.
Jockey bookings are as yet unknown, but although Tom Scudamore has done an excellent job on him so far it would be interesting if David Pipe claimed off Night Edition for this ultra-competitive race. The sponsors will no doubt go overboard on the extra place offers, which would be a big help with a big outsider.
He may have improvement left in him and I would be surprised if he went off at the 9-4 shown at the time of writing on Wednesday.
He has already won a good ground bumper for Paul Nicholls and he seemed to improve last time over hurdles for the fitting of a tongue strap. Though this trip looks likely to be a minimum for him, this looks a weak heat.
She is another who could outclass her field.
A useful handicapper over hurdles, she looks like she might be even better over fences - certainly against her own sex - winning at Newbury before being outclassed by stablemate Shishkin.
In her bumper season, Elusive Belle was second in a Listed event and certainly hasn’t gone backwards since, so she looks to hold a very obvious chance at a commensurate price here.
