Horse racing tips: Sunday selections from Angus McNae

This Wiiliam Haggas-trained gelding has not reached his full potential yet.  

Godwinson was an excellent second in the Spring Cup on his seasonal reappearance which promised plenty to come, but after proving a disappointment next time out he was back to form at last time when finishing fourth, faring best of those held-up in a race that was not run to suit.  

This spot looks a good opportunity to showcase his talents.  

With the ground on the soft side at the time of writing and with plenty of rain forecast before racing, it may pay to be with one proven in the mud and Tiriac fits the bill.  

Two of his three career wins have come on heavy ground and he finished a very good secons on his only previous start at this track. 

With conditions looking to be in his favour, he is worth chancing.  

Iain Jardine has his horses in good form and this handicapper has been threatening to win for a while.  

Elemental Eye was poorly placed in a slowly-run race at last time where he travelled strongly in first-time cheekpieces.  

He shaped with plenty of promise on his two previous starts too, and his first career success looks to be on the cards in what is a weak Class 5 handicap.  

Ed Bethell has his horses in good form and Lerwick will surely have benefitted from his seasonal return at Pontefract, where he shaped as if in badly in need of the run.  

He looked progressive last season and, although he has clearly had some issues, he still looks to have some potential.  

Lerwick has had nine career starts and has been sent of favourite on seven occasions, which suggests he shows plenty of ability at home. 

At his best, he looks sure to go well here.
