1.50 Redcar: Copper And Five

Ruth Carr’s six-year-old is a pound below the mark he last won off, and that was only back in the spring at Thirsk, so still looks favourably treated off a rating of 68.

Mia Nicholls is a very good apprentice rider, so her 3lb claim when riding against other apprentices is also very helpful. Copper And Five has been pretty consistent since his latest victory and had scored over this course and distance in the past, so clearly has a chance here.

His handler had a couple of winners over the weekend, too, so the stable is in good form.

3.00 Redcar: Birkenhead

Birkenhead has shown he is back in good form recently by finishing runner-up on the all-weather on his past two starts. He last won off a 4lb lower rating on the all-weather, but won off this mark of 67 on turf at York last year.

Ryan Sexton, who has ridden him before, takes off a valuable 3lb here and his mount has a fair draw. Birkenhead is a typical Paul Midgley-trained sprinter who runs himself in and out of form, but he is certainly in good form currently, so is worth siding with.

4.10 Redcar: JoJo Rabbit

It is a case of three starts and you're out with Jojo Rabbit, who I have tipped up the last twice! I am just about over the penultimate start where he travelled with so much power, but was locked up on the rail in a hopeless position.

He ran to form last time out but unfortunately Albegone returned to his best and beat him by half a length. Jojo Rabbit has never run over six furlongs, and I definitely think this is an overdue roll of the dice as he has been staying on well at the finish on a couple of occasions over five furlongs.

He has a good draw in stall four and I am hoping he does not change his running style too much as I would rather see him drop back through lack of stamina than try to go through the field late in the game and potentially encounter traffic problems.
