I have enjoyed the midweek
Beverley cards this summer, and hopefully the trio below can run well on a fixture that features a few familiar names amongst the runners. Don’t forget to watch every race live on Racing TV on Wednesday!
This three-year-old won a handicap decisively off 55 earlier in the year, but has found it difficult to win again despite running consistently well for the most part off marks in the mid 60’s.
He has been put in at a good weight in the claimer and could well find this an easier task.
He has a good draw in stall three and his yard have been operating at a strike-rate just shy of 20 per cent in the past fortnight.
Jason Hart, who knows the selection well, takes the mount again and was on board for his Catterick success, so there are plenty of positives.
I have a dilemma regarding Proud Archi in this handicap as he finally rewarded my loyalty last time at a good price, and in very good style over this course and distance.
I will probably have a saver on him in this race at least, but now that he is 6lb higher again, my main bet will be on Zumurud who is definitely due to win off his mark soon, despite being beaten off 74 a few times already.
The six-year-old has a low draw in amongst several pacesetters and should be able to sit and travel comfortably just off the pace before hopefully taking advantage as the leaders tire close home.
He was definitely unlucky to lose at Pontefract last time when taking a hefty bump two furlongs out.
The blinkers being tried for the first time are interesting and even if they bring about even slight improvement, it might be enough for Zumurud to notch another win.
A slightly lower draw might have been preferable, but there is no doubting this is a good opportunity for this consistent young sprinter to break his maiden.
He has gone close on his past three starts and was clear of the rest when beaten last time out over six furlongs.
Beverley’s stiff 5f track might just be ideal for him. His three recent placed efforts have all come on good to firm ground, but he managed to finish runner-up on heavy going last year, so should be fine whatever the current unpredictable weather throws up.
Connor Beasley has ridden him to be placed three times and is on board again.
