2.20 Catterick: The Dancing Poet
The different terms of amateur riders’ events sometimes play in your favour. Matt Brown is able to claim 5lb on The Dancing Poet here, despite having won on the eight-year-old already this season without the benefit of a claim.
Brian Ellison’s gelding has won six times at this track – including over hurdles – and could probably guide his capable rider around the track.
He looks the best bet here now that the 5lb the handicapper has raised him since that latest easy win is negated in full by the claim.
He was a good second here last time, staying on nicely on what was his first run for two months, and he might just come on for that and may well appreciate the slight step up in trip.
2.50 Catterick: Albegone
The handicapper has evidently been kind to Albegone, who is now 2lb lower than when he won over course and distance in May.
He has run creditably most of the time since the win and was a really good second again at this track on his latest start.
If Albegone is on a going day, he has the best chance of winning this under Duran Fentiman who has not yet won on the six-year-old but has been runner up twice this season on him and knows the horse well enough.
3.20 Catterick: Morandi Second
Patrick Neville’s gelding has had quite a few absences since coming over from France and has only occasionally shown signs of retaining his 2022 Flat form.
However, he didn’t run too badly at Cartmel last time, again after an absence and without headgear.
He is very likely to be able to sit off what should be a decent pace and might be focused enough to make a challenge with the blinkers and tongue-tie reapplied.
He might be worth an each-way chance in this very modest handicap.
