Horse racing tips: three to look out for at Carlisle

Our resident website tipster Dave Nevison likes three runners at Carlisle on Thursday, with further action from Navan and Chelmsford City coming up live on Racing TV.

2.18 Carlisle: ANNANDALE

He looks a decent bet in this competitive handicap for amateur riders.
Annandale has an interesting backstory, with trainer Jim Goldie originally getting him from the Mark Johnston yard but, after failing to win with him in 2022, the gelding was moved to trainer Iain Jardine. After failing to win in six starts for the Carrutherstown yard last year, Annandale is back with Goldie now.
He's been ridden by an inexperienced claimer in both starts this season since rejoining this yard, and he attracted controversy on his latest start when his rider was banned for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable measures to get her mount into the race. Annandale was certainly eye-catching and finished really well under hands and heels riding, looking as though he could have been a contender had he been ridden more forcefully.
Megan Davies is a more experienced rider and, off the same mark today – his lowest ever – Annandale can take advantage.

3.18 Carlisle: ROBERTO CARO

Roberto Caro has had a decent season and still looks capable of landing another handicap from a mark of 82.
After landing a competitive 12- runner handicap at Thirsk on his penultimate start I thought he ran well in a competitive handicap at Haydock Park last time off a mark of 83. There have already been a couple of winners from that, so getting beaten just over 2 ½ lengths into fifth looks a decent effort and the handicapper might have been generous in dropping him 1lb.
Trainer Adrian Keatley had an excellent time with his runners at the Sky Bet Ebor Festival so his yard is in top form, and he has engaged a decent 3lb claimer to ease Roberto Caro’s burden even further.

5.25 Carlisle: BUSHFIRE

Trainer Gemma Tutty is having a terrific season and it looks like she can get a win out of Bushfire, especially as we get to the autumn on potentially softer ground.
The North West has been hammered with rain over the Bank Holiday so the ground will be okay here and Bushfire might be ready to win.
His latest win – when apprentice-ridden – came off a 4lb-higher mark than his current rating and judging by his latest effort when third at Newcastle he is poised to score.
Jockey Rhys Elliott doesn’t get that many rides on horses with chances and he looks decent value for his 7lb claim.
