Horse racing tips: Dave Nevison's best bets for Tuesday

It was a tough week punting at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, with Inverness, Regional (who is my ante-post fancy for the Ayr Gold Cup) and especially Super Superjack all hitting the crossbar.

They remain in my Racing TV Tracker, and I am certain it will pay to follow them this season.

A couple of jumpers switching to the flat have caught my eye at Catterick on Tuesday, plus I also like the chances of one in the 1m2f handicap at Chelmsford. Let’s hope for better luck this week!

3.15 Catterick: Flat White

In a very modest contest, this lightly raced mare looks the interesting one here. She has not been seen on the flat in this country but is pitched in at a much lower mark than for some reasonable efforts in France.

The five-year-old was definitely campaigned with handicaps in mind over hurdles after joining Lucy Wadham and ran well enough in three starts over obstacles to think she may be competitive this Autumn.

However, off a rating of 58, I definitely think there are possibilities for her on the flat, especially with the booking of Ben Curtis, and the fact she is upped to a trip her pedigree suggests will suit. The market will be the guide to her chances here as well.

4.15 Catterick: Glory And Honour

This six-year-old is very much on a recovery mission after being beaten at odds-on in a small-field contest last time out, but I am hopeful he will make amends here.

He had been campaigned over distances way too short to get a handicap mark, and the plan seemed to have worked when he was given a rating of 59 ahead of his first handicap on the flat.

However, a race run at a crawl was against him and he finished third of four. He has been dropped a further 2lb for that effort at Redcar, and this is a much more competitive field, with a strong pace likely.

Glory And Honour was rated 120 when he last ran over hurdles and although ratings between disciplines do not always convert by any means, he is competing at a very low grade here and has lots in his favour.

6.40 Chelmsford: Salonica

Salonica is a hopeful selection in a race where not many are easy to fancy. She returned following a three-month absence last time out and although well beaten, she was in with a chance before weakening.

The three-year-old has been dropped a pound for that effort but finished second at Lingfield a couple of times in the spring, and this contest is certainly no more difficult a task than those two races.

The 5lb claim of Harry Davies is another positive, too.
