There is some brilliant racing in Ireland on Racing TV on Sunday, including Listed action from Cork, and two Grade Two contests at Fairyhouse, and. I have four selections across both meetings. Best of luck.
This lightly raced gelding looks ready to make up for lost time after a very good run at Naas last time out where he finished a good second to the smart Bring On The Night, who finished fourth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on his next start.
With a bumper success behind him at Listowel, and the potential to improve in this sphere, he makes plenty of appeal given that he should be sharper for his Naas run.
At a general 15-8, he should be supported.
This selection requires some reading between the lines. Firstly, Jamie Spencer flies over to ride her, and she is his only ride on the card, and secondly, she appears to be highly thought of as she holds entries in the Group Three Gladness Stakes plus the Irish 2,000 Guineas.
More tangible is the ability she showed on her debut where she shaped well behind Markaz Paname, who has since won a handicap easily off a mark of 97.
The selection disappointed on her second start but is clearly much better than she showed on that occasion, and I am happy to take a chance that she is more than useful.
This seven-year-old was useful on the flat when trained by Andrew Balding, and although he has been lightly raced for Willie Mullins over hurdles, he appears to be highly thought of.
He made his hurdling debut in the 2020 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle before winning at Kilbeggan and then finished a good second at Thurles in a Grade Three Novices’ Hurdle. He endured lengthy absences before each of those outings, so has clearly not been the easiest to train, but he travelled strongly when last seen and shaped like the best horse in the race.
Given that was his first start for 286 days, he is likely to come on a good deal for the run, and the pace in that race was probably not strong enough for him, given that he made the running and set a strong pace when he won at Kilbeggan.
I can see him being ridden positively here and he rates as a good bet to land this Grade Two contest.
This colt is quite stoutly bred, and it is testament to his raw ability that he has shown plenty in three starts over seven furlongs so far.
He is by Australia out of a mare who was useful over ten and 12 furlongs, and now that he steps up to ten furlongs, he is a strong selection.
He contested a Listed race at Tipperary on his final start last season and the fact he faces a more suitable trip here, as well as a drop in grade, makes him very interesting.
Ryan Moore is on board, and his mount should be backed with confidence to get off the mark.
