Hollie Doyle equals female record of 106 winners in a year at Wolverhampton

Hollie Doyle equalled Josephine Gordon’s record of 106 winners by a female rider in a calendar year when steering Angelic Time to victory at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

The Dark Angel colt, trained by Ed Vaughan, took the Ladbrokes ‘Play 1-2 Free’ On Football EBF Novice Stakes by half a length from Borstal Bull when sent off the 4-1 second favourite.

Emirates Currency, the 11-10 market leader, was a length and a quarter further away in third place.

Doyle, 23, became the third female to reach a century in a year after Gordon and Hayley Turner when winning on The Perfect Crown at Chelmsford on November 21.

Gordon’s landmark total came in 2017 and Doyle had reduced the gap to one when striking on Urban Hero for her main supporter, trainer Archie Watson, at Lingfield earlier in the day.

“I’m very relieved, it’s good,” Doyle told Sky Sports Racing.

“Me and Josie (Gordon) are best friends. We get on very well, so it’s nice.

“It means a lot to me. It’s not the bee all and end all but I’m absolutely delighted.

“It’s amazing for me. I never imagined I would be in this position so I’m just grateful.

“I’ll just keep going and doing things the same. I’m not going abroad for the winter. I’m staying here.”

After bringing up the 100, Doyle said her main aim for 2020 was to land a Group success. She has already had five Listed winners.
