Sirenia Stakes: Richard Hannon trio in hunt for Kempton prize

Fri 6 Sep 2019

Richard Hannon fires a triple salvo at Saturday’s Sun Racing Sirenia Stakes at Kempton.

The Listed contest has attracted seven evenly matched juveniles with Hannon responsible for Lexington Rebel (Hollie Doyle),  Oh Purple Reign (Sean Levey) and Sun Power (Jack Mitchell).

Oh Purple Reign has been busy in his first season and will be having his ninth outing having won three and finished second to the exciting Pinatubo on Derby day at Epsom.

Hannon said: “Oh Purple Reign is a lovely colt that is very consistent. Hopefully he will like that surface.

“I think he wants a little bit further than six nowadays, but he it takes some getting round there. He takes his races well and is a dream to train.”

Sun Power has won one of his five races and has been placed in Listed races the last twice.

“Sun Power – on his best form – he would nearly win,” said Hannon.

“He can be a bit too keen for his own good. I was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t win last time. Dropping back to six will be fine as he has the speed and he is drawn all right.”

Of the three, Lexington Rebel is the least exposed having had just two races, winning recently at Chepstow.

“Lexington Rebel won his race last time out. He is going back up in trip but hopefully he will run well,” said Hannon.

They may all have to go some to beat Mark Johnston’s Huraiz who has won both his outings to date, defying a penalty at Newmarket last time out.

Clive Cox’s Streamline has won two of his three races, James Tate’s Melodic Charm won her one and only race at Wolverhampton while Brian Meehan’s Aroha was third in the Albany Stakes.
