Grand National Festival: 'Race Against Dementia' to be partner charity

Randox today announces Race Against Dementia, a global charity founded by three-times Formula One World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, as its charity partner for the Randox Grand National Festival 2023.
Today, across the globe, around 55 million people are living with dementia, with someone new developing the disease every three seconds. Unless a cure is found, it is estimated that one in three people born today will suffer from dementia.
Randox will support Race Against Dementia throughout the three-day Aintree festival to highlight the impact of the disease and to raise funds for much-needed research into its prevention and cure.
On Ladies Day (Friday 14th April), Randox's sponsored race over the Grand National fences will be titled 'The Randox Supports Race Against Dementia Topham Chase', and there will be opportunities to reach out to both the racing public and, through the festival’s media coverage, to the nation.
The 2023 festival will also enable a welcome return to Aintree for Sir Jackie, who raced at Aintree in the 1960s, at a time when Aintree was part of the Grand Prix circuit.

In the pursuit of a cure for dementia, improved testing and diagnosis will both enhance patient management and greatly accelerate the race for treatment.

Jockey cleared of deliberately jumping off horse
Jockey Philip Byrnes caused a social media storm with an admittedly soft unseat at the final hurdle in a race at Wexford in May 2025, with victory looking a near-formality aboard Redwood Queen, the mare trained by Charles Byrnes, the jockey’s father. A report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board has concluded the rider is culpable of ‘poor horsemanship’ but has dismissed any foul play.

Arkle bound? Salvator Mundi cruises to victory at Thurles | Full Race | Racing TV
Salvator Mundi got off the mark over fences in facile style when justifying odds of 1/7 at Thurles for jockey Paul Townend, trainer Willie Mullins and owners Joe and Marie Donnelly.
The No Risk At All gelding skipped clear of his rivals before the third-last fence in the 2m2f Beginners Chase and didn’t need to be asked any questions as he cantered to a 28-length success. Fishery Lane won the battle of his stablemates to finish second, with Dr Eggman third in a Closutton 1-2-3.
Townend said: "He got turned over at short odds here previously on his first run over fences and while I didn't ride him when he was in deeper waters at Leopardstown afterwards, I thought he was a bit disappointing.
"He had a straightforward task today and I thought he jumped really well and enjoyed himself. He took on his fences really nicely and stayed going well on testing ground. You couldn't knock him today."
Paddy Power made the winner a 20/1 shot (from 25/1) for the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

"Gorgeous" Act Of Innocence now 10/1 for the Turners at Cheltenham | Full Replay | Racing TV
Trainer Nicky Henderson already has one very exciting novice in Old Park Star and, in the same silks of owners Gordon and Su Hall, Act Of Innocence looks another one as he bolsters his reputation with a smooth success in the Sidney Banks Memorial Novices' Hurdle at Huntingdon.
The Listed prize is one of the track's feature races of the year and it's one Henderson has a penchant for, having now won the contest four times and most famously with Shishkin six years ago.
Asked by Racing TV's Nick Lightfoot how Act Of Innocence would compare in terms of natural talent to that ill-fated top-class performer, the trainer certainly didn't put any dampeners on his latest winner as attention now turns to the Turners Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival ahead of what could be a very exciting career over fences from next season and beyond.
