Graeme McPherson seeking Towton redemption with Ami Desbois

Wed 31 Jan 2018

Graeme McPherson wants to see Ami Desbois put a disappointing run at Cheltenham behind him in Saturday's totesport.com Towton Novices' Chase at Wetherby.

Cheltenham Races - New Year's Day

Having won his first two novice chases at the West Yorkshire track, he was upped in class for the Dipper Novices' Chase on New Year's Day.

However, he turned in a lacklustre effort that day and was eventually pulled up, with jockey Paddy Brennan reporting the eight-year-old had made a noise.

"As long as it isn't too heavy he'll run, we'll just have to see what the weather does at the end of the week," said McPherson.

"If it's soft ground I'm very much hoping he'll run. Wetherby seem confident it will be bright and breezy until raceday.

"He hasn't had a wind op, but he has had his palate done in the past. He's run in a tongue tie for the past 18 months.

"Paddy reported at Cheltenham that he made a noise, but I don't think he was ever in a rhythm that day.

"He just didn't look like the horse that he had been before Christmas. He's been in fine order at home and whether it was Cheltenham, the fact they went hell for leather, or whether it was the very soft ground, I just don't know.

"He's won all three times he's been to Wetherby and it's a lovely track for novices."
