John and Thady Gosden may have found themselves an
Oaks candidate in Legacy Link at York on Wednesday, but have had to rule one-time Epsom favourite I’m The One out of Classic action on June 5.
The daughter of Sea The Stars earned rave reviews after her dazzling Newbury debut and was backed into Oaks favouritism prior to seeing her colours lowered by current favourite for the race, Aidan O’Brien’s Amelia Earhart, in the Cheshire Oaks.
The Clarehaven team refused to be downcast after that outing on the Roodee with the Oaks still in the picture, but having been unhappy with her condition since, the father-and-son training team have made the decision to rule the talented filly out of a trip to the Surrey Downs early next month.
John Gosden said: “I spoke to the owner this morning. We’re a little bit unhappy, just a little bit concerned about her since the race and it just hasn’t come right.
“She’ll be back later in the season but she won’t be going to Epsom, which is profoundly frustrating but that is the nature of the game.
“It’s nice this filly has won today, but it’s not quite the same – you want to be like Aidan (O’Brien) and go with about four candidates!
“This was a good trial today and the two of them have never worked together, but for me I’m The One is an exceptionally talented filly as well so we’ll just get her right, that’s the main thing.”
