Glorious Goodwood day four World Pool preview: a tip for every race on Friday

In the latest of our World Pool previews, we provide a race-by-race guide to Friday's action at Glorious Goodwood, with World Pool in operation for the full card.
As a collaboration of global Totes, World Pool enables bettors from all over the globe to bet into a single pool, the result being enormous liquidity, and a multi-million pound betting experience. Due to the dynamic nature of the pool, customers can receive higher pay outs than they would receive with bookmakers. In the UK, the Tote operates Tote Guarantee which means the UK and Irish pools will always match or exceed the industry Starting Price (SP) on Win bets.
Race 1 - Coral Goodwood Handicap
Only two of the last 12 winners of this staying 4000m (20f) handicap won on their preceding start, so being in form – like hurdling winner Kentucky River or four-timer-seeking Believeitanducan – is not crucial. However, proven stamina is; 12 of the last 13 winners had at least two previous runs over two miles. Sea Of Kings doesn't quite fit the bill, but ST MAWES does. He made good progress for Emma Lavelle last season and has joined a very good yard since finishing second over two miles here in May. Ascot Stakes runner-up Defiantly, and Valiancy – who shapes like he will relish this test – are other four-year-olds to consider, while Alphonse Le Grande has all the attributes to play a big part.
Race 2 - HKJC World Pool Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3)
The Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket has proven to be a good guide to this 1600m (8f) Group 3; in the last nine years, three horses have done the double, while two more were beaten in that listed race on the July Course before winning this. This year's victor SHAYEM looked a horse to follow when winning well earlier this month and appears a good value alternative to Talk Of New York now back up in grade. The last-named had his St James's Palace Stakes third franked on Wednesday, but he can pull hard and that's a slight worry at his short odds. Blinkers are an interesting addition for Saber Strike, who is up in distance, while it would be no surprise to see an improved effort from Yazin (who was short in the betting when disappointing behind Talk Of New York at Sandown when last seen in May).

Race 3 - Coral Golden Mile (Heritage Handicap)
This 1600m (8f) handicap could develop into a burn-up early on with lots of pace drawn out wide with Scoville, Mister Winston and Archivist all usually keen on setting the pace.  Of those, Scoville is the most interesting, but this race could be set up for a closer, and INDALO fits the bill. He got back to winning ways at Sandown last time, likes quick ground, and should be finishing as well as any from off the pace. Buckingham Palace Stakes fourth Blue Brother, unexposed handicap debutant Bunyola Bay, and the hat-trick-seeking Beagle Bay are all respected.

Why World Pool Wins

✅ International liquidity powering bigger, stronger pools
✅ More money returned to customers
✅ Exceptional value on Exactas & Trifectas
✅ Fair, transparent, pool‑based betting
Race 4 - King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)
As you might expect, horses that were beaten in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot have a good record in this 1000m (5f) contest; five of the last 12 winners of this ran in that Group 1, with only one – superstar Battaash in 2020 – doing the double. Seventh last month, the Australian mare Asfoora rates better than she could show after a slow start behind winner Rumstar at Sandown last time, but it's worth giving another chance to NIGHT RAIDER who was three places behind her at Ascot. He was poorly drawn that day, eventually finishing first in his group - beaten only two lengths - and his experience of this course (sixth last year behind JM Jungle) is a bonus as 10 of the last 12 winners had at least one previous run here to their name. The speedy Jakajaro, who was third in last year's Stewards' Cup, is also considered.
Race 5 - Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes
This 1800m (9f) contest is a drop in grade for many of these, but it's still competitive, especially with Boiling Point, Galen, and Naqeeb – to name just a few – all likely to ensure a strong gallop. That should tee the race up perfectly for the Richard Hannon-trained HAATEM who is better than he was able to show as a joint-favourite when eased off at Royal Ascot last month. He runs this course very well (won the Vintage in 2023 - see video below), has a fine record on quick ground, and this is a very important week for his owners who had the winner in 2024 and the runner-up last season; he looks to have been saved for this assignment.
Watch: Haatem won the 2023 Vintage Stakes here
Race 6 - Hawes & Curtis Nursery Handicap
A 1200m (6f) sprint for two-year-olds that has gone to handicap debutants in each of the last four seasons. May Bee In Profit is interesting towards the bottom of the weights, but the sixth furlong seemed to stretch her at Windsor two starts back, so preference is for CLASH OF HEARTS who looks potentially well-treated on his third in Beverley's Two Year Old Trophy. The hat-trick-seeking pair of Paper View and Innichen, along with Hamilton winner Dubai Champion – for whom Ryan Moore is an eye-catching jockey booking – all make the shortlist.
Race 7 - World Pool Bet With The tote Handicap
Again, there appears to be plenty of pace on in this 2200m (11f) contest. Into The Light failed to fire at Royal Ascot and remains capable of better in first-time cheekpieces, but a test of stamina will suit Astracornus, who should improve over this longer trip, Mythical Valentine, who represents an in-form yard, and PIERIAN, who gets the nod now dropped in class. She only made her debut in April but has already won twice, and this well-related filly shaped well in defeat in a listed contest at Longchamp last month. She can give William Haggas a second win in this race after Wink Of An Eye in 2021.
Race 8 - British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Handicap
A 2lb (less than 1kg) rise in the weights for Salisbury winner SILVER LAKE looks an oversight by the handicapper and she's fancied to land this closing 2000m (10f) handicap at the main expense of Room Fourteen who has improved for the application of a hood. One fly in the ointment could be the lack of pace, which could see Folk Pageant allowed to set fractions to suit under Hector Crouch who won on her in May. Now down in class, Lady Dora Mae should fare better, along with Zgharta who was not ideally placed when fourth at Chester last time out.
