Gavota gallops into Classic contention with impressive Lingfield success

Gavota received quotes for next year's Qipco 1000 Guineas after maintaining her unbeaten record in impressive fashion at Lingfield.

After making a winning debut at Newmarket earlier this month, the Roger Charlton-trained two-year-old made it two from two with victory in the second division of the Injured Jockeys' Fund EBF Fillies' Novice Median Auction Stakes.

Gavota received a nice tow into the seven-furlong race and the daughter of Bated Breath moved effortlessly into contention approaching the final quarter of a mile.

Although newcomer Qafilah attempted to match strides with the 30-100 favourite late on, the Khalid Abdullah-owned filly readily pulled clear when asked to lengthen by James Doyle.

Gavota crossed the line with six lengths in hand over Unchaining Melody, while Qafilah was another half a length in arrears in third place.

Following the race, the winner was introduced at 25-1 by both Paddy Power and BetVictor for the fillies' Classic at Newmarket.

Tom Charlton, son of the winning trainer, said: "She's a sweet filly with a lovely, long stride.

"She's got an entry in the Rockfel (Newmarket, September 29), but there's a chance she'll get a mile as well.

"She's got a lovely attitude, typical of her sire Bated Breath.

"She seems like a straightforward filly and is easy to train."

Doyle told At The Races: "I think that will give us enough confidence to have a little go at something like that (Rockfel)."
