Four fancies for Thursday evening: Cool can rule from the front

Given the inclement weather across Britain I have decided to stick with all-weather racing at home and abroad on Thursday. I have two fancies at Chelmsford and have also had a good look at the decent card at Gulfstream Park in Florida.

5.35 Gulfstream Park: Adventist

No trainer has a better record of placing horses in claimers in the United States than Mike Maker and he appears to have found an ideal opportunity for Adventist.

A winner here in April, on his only previous outing on the Gulfstream turf, he went on to record another victory in July at Ellis Park in Kentucky.

He obviously relishes very firm turf so his runner-up effort at Churchill Downs on a yielding surface, and in a slightly higher grade, last time out reads well.

It is also significant that Maker has booked the assistance of Gulfstream’s reigning champion jockey Tyler Gaffalione. His morning line price of 3-1 looks very playable.

7.15 Chelmsford: Pactolus

Seems to be in the form of his life, despite it being just a couple of weeks short of his seventh birthday, with his win at Wolverhampton last time out appearing to be a career best effort.

He has a tremendous record at Chelmsford, where he has chalked up four victories - including two over this distance. Throughout his career he is a horse who has consistently held his form, over a series of runs, once on a roll.

7.35 Gulfstream Park: Bullroarer

Gulfstream Park at this time of year is known for its high quality maiden races – but this is not one of them!

This is a weak two-year-old maiden claimer but it could represent some betting value in the shape of Bullroarer, who represents Breeders’ Cup winning trainer Ralph Nicks.

Bullroarer ran his best race to date, finishing second when stepped up to 7f, last time out in this grade and he tries the one-turn mile for the first time.

In a race in which few of his rivals look to want to go a mile, or have shown little pace, he could be dangerous outside speed in the hands of one of Gulfstream’s leading speed riders Edgard Zayas.

Anything close to his 4-1 morning line would be attractive.

7.45 Chelmsford: You’re Cool

With the way that the track at Chelmsford has been riding the last few months You’re Cool is a perfect Chelmsford horse as he likes to “ping” the gates and make all – and he is now looking for a hat-trick of wins over course and distance.

He is technically dropping in grade on Thursday off his last win a month ago and the form of that course and distance success has worked out well with the second and third subsequently winning.

You’re Cool appears to be the lone front running speed in this race and may just get it all his own way on the front end.

Rachel’s fancies for Thursday:

5.35 Gulfstream Park: Adventist

7.15 Chelmsford: Pactolus at 4-1 with Bet365

7.35 Gulfstream Park: Bullroarer

7.45 Chelmsford: You’re Cool at a general 9-4
