Nic Doggett provides a race-by-race guide to Friday's action at Newmarket, with World Pool in operation for the full eight-race card. As a collaboration of global Totes,
World Pool enables bettors from all over the globe to bet into a single pool, the result being enormous liquidity, and a multi-million pound betting experience. Due to the dynamic nature of the pool, customers can receive higher pay outs than they would receive with bookmakers. In the UK, the Tote operates Tote Guarantee which means the UK and Irish pools will always match or exceed the industry Starting Price (SP) on Win bets.
Race 1 - Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3)
The drop back to 1000m (5f) will suit the Ballydoyle speedball Carry The Flag, but Ryan Moore prefers Marco Polo despite him beating only one home in the Middle Park here last month. However, on a formline through the winner Orthodox, he has a little to find with MUSSAB who is progressing well since being dropped back to this distance. He won the Rosebery Stakes at Ayr last time, a race that has provided two of the last six winners of this, and the Fahey colt is selected ahead of Flann Sunna, Fast Track and In The Black who were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Champagne Stakes when last seen.
Mussab (white and green silks) made it back-to-back wins when winning at Ayr last time Race 2 - Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3)
The 2022 and 2023 winners, Midnight Mile and Dance Sequence, both won this 1400m (7f) contest on the back of one start and a chance is taken on CHASING DELIGHT being classy enough to follow in their footsteps. A more expensive purchase than is usually associated with the yard, the Space Blues filly became a fairly rare winning two-year-old newcomer for the stable when showing a good turn of foot to take control of a steadily-run Yarmouth novice last month. Nuit d'Eclair sets the standard on form but needs the cards to fall right if held up once more, while it remains to be seen if this will be enough of a test for Siena Storm. Celestia, following a break, looks the pick of the rest.
Race 3 - Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards Challenge Stakes (Group 2)
FLORA OF BERMUDA heads the betting but, along with stablemate Never So Brave, is not always the quickest from the stalls. However, she has a class edge on these rivals and with a lack of frontrunners (other than Witness Stand) in this 1400m (7f) Group Two, the emphasis should be on speed which will suit her. The lightly-raced Time To Turn is respected, but a bit like Pina Sonata, his best form has come on slower ground; if both are held up then they might struggle to peg back Flora Of Bermuda if she gets first run.
Race 4 - bet365 Fillies' Mile (Group 1)
Amusingly (Jean-Luc Lagardere winner) and Data (head-second to Green Empress in the Marcel Boussac) have franked for form of Rogue Passion's Longchamp win, but MUSICAL TIMES is on the same path as the yard's Desert Flower who won the May Hill at Doncaster, and this 1600m (8f) race, before following up in the 1000 Guineas, and she can maintain her 100% record. Forbidden Fire and Lex Victoria, both unbeaten in two starts, are respected, but the one who could outrun her long odds is Scommessa Sicura who has twice chased home the favourite this year and will have no problem with the return to quicker ground.
The Verdict team analyse Musical Times' win earlier in the season Race 5 - bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap)
A chance is taken on London Gold Cup fourth SPYCE whose trainer Alan King won this 2400m (12f) contest in 2019 with Trueshan, and his handling of Daiquiri Bay this season has been a good reminder that he knows exactly what it takes to win these big middle-distance handicaps. Study Of Words could improve for a recent gelding operation, while Archers Bay's form looks very solid, but that can also be said of many of these (including Decade Of Time and Lord d'Or) who are also linked through an Ascot race last month that was won by Turty Tree. In turn, Andrew Balding's charge was a short-head behind Devil's Peak at Newbury back in July.

Race 6 - Godolphin Under Starters Orders EBF Boadicea Stakes (Listed Race) Forty Years On is respected as she probably raced on the wrong bit of the track when failing in her hat-trick bid at Doncaster last month, but, like The Prettiest Star, she might not find this 1200m (6f) distance enough of a test as both drop in trip. Preference is for ZEN DIVA who is progressing at a rate of knots and is fancied to show that she's not just a Salisbury specialist; she can give Ralph Beckett a third winner in eight years. Sing The Blues could bounce back and makes the shortlist along with Ryan Moore's mount Lady Youmzain.
Rossa Ryan spoke to Racing TV after Zen Diva's most recent win Race 7 - Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (Group 3)
Silver Lake's progress since handicapping in a tongue-tie has shown no sign of stopping, but – like her stablemate Song Of The Clouds - she faces more of a test up in grade here against some battle-hardened mares. One of those is SNELLEN who has conditions to suit and is the type to bounce back from her disappointing run when last seen. Touleen has stamina questions to answer but was placed in the Coronation Stakes earlier in the season, while Legacy Link was second in the Oaks and can bounce back from a poor run at York where she was clearly not herself. Francophone is the pick of the course winners, while Previous needs a check in betting on this belated return to action.
Race 8 - HKJC World Pool Handicap
COMMANDER OF LIFE was stuck out wide when down the field at Wolverhampton but is better judged on his progressive summer form, and he can run well at a price in this competitive 1400m (7f) handicap. Lion Of Mali is another who can be forgiven their latest run, having run out of room at Doncaster last month, while this quicker ground can also see The Sweet Escape bounce back. Ryan Moore takes over for the first time on his family's George Wickham, who caught the eye at Salisbury last time, so he rates an obvious danger on his second handicap start. Bintola, Expert Agent and Nanoscience are just three others to consider in a very tricky end to the card.
