12.00 Carlisle: Teddy Mac
This five-year-old has certainly been more competitive since he was dropped into handicaps, and upped in trip, and based on his last run, in particular, he looks capable of landing a moderate contest like this.
Teddy Mac’s dam won a three-mile hurdle and, being by Black Sam Bellamy, he is certainly not bred for speed, so this extended three miles on one of the stiffest tracks in the country will certainly play to his strengths.
He was beaten just over a length last time, his first run for five months, and if he makes a modicum of improvement for that reappearance, he may be too strong for this field.
12.30 Carlisle: Lady In The Park
Lady In The Park was dropped in distance for her first run over fences and finished an excellent race to finish fourth plus was only beaten just over half a length.
She won a point-to-point who and is certainly bred to be running over fence,s and over extended staying trips. With that experience behind her, she can be expected to press on now she is racing over three miles at this track.
The Lucinda Russell team are in good form and although Russell didn’t have a winner at Cheltenham, she did have four winners in the North last week, so Lady in The Park should be spot on for this run a month on from her debut.
3.15 Carlisle: Walk On Quest
Kept to this grade, Walk On Quest is more than capable of following up his impressive winning debut over fences, though there is little doubt he will progress further when moved up in distance.
I am pretty sure Derek Fox will make this as much of a stamina test as possible and will no doubt force the pace. If the selections jumps as well as last time, he could have his largely modest rivals in trouble.
Described as a "rangy type", he should be well capable of giving away the weight.
