2.40 Sandown: Devil’s Angel

The last time this horse headed south to Sandown Park he won a sprint handicap off a mark of 77 in decent style. That was his second course and distance win and he clearly acts well on the Esher track so it is very interesting to see him here off a mark of just 72.

Devil’s Angel has performed below his best for a while , although interestingly his best run this season came at Beverley (5f course very similar to Sandown) off a mark of 81 and he showed clear signs that he was on the way back when second at Redcar last time.

That was off 72 and he is off the same mark here on a track that plays to his strengths.

3.35 Doncaster: Quantum Leap

Quantum Leap has started markedly slowly on his past two starts and it is becoming a worrying trait. He got away with when winning on the first occasion at Nottingham but then off a 5lb higher mark gave himself too much to do and never challenged back at the same track last time.

I am a huge fan of Ed Bethell as a trainer and am taking the view that he will have tried to address this problem and that between him and Callum Rodriguez they will iron it out.

Off the same mark as last time I believe he is a horse with improvement in him and a race such as this is well within his grasp.

4.45 Doncaster: Tactical

I am sticking with this former Group Two winner, who is tumbling down the weights. He failed to figure at York last time but it was difficult to come from behind there in a fast run race and I saw enough towards the end of the race to suggest he is on the way back.

Doncaster is a stiffer, more galloping track that promises to suit suit better and the extra half furlong of this event might well be Tactical’s ideal trip.

Julie Camacho had a big disappointment with Shaquille at Haydock on Saturday her luck will turn and this is exactly the type she excels with. It’s interesting that Tom Marquand takes the ride.
