4.22 Nottingham: Joe Masseria
After being sent off at massive odds for all his starts this year,
Joe Masseria was well supported on his debut for Ryan Potter and ended up joint-favourite. Unfortunately for supporters, the money was blown at the start, and Joe Masseria was never in the race.
The selections steps back up to ten furlongs here, which is not a concern as, although he hasn’t won over this far, he has run well enough over this trip, including on soft ground.
Potter has booked Paul Hainey for the ride and the amateur rider has enjoyed plenty of success this summer plus is a real asset claiming 3lb.
The cat is out of the bag as regards the expectations, and bookies will be wary, but Potter doesn’t make too many mistakes, and I'm hoping the recent losses can be recouped here.

6.30 Kempton: Cogitate
Cogitate has run twice in 0-85 company this year, winning at Salisbury in May and then getting beaten a neck over this course and distance on his penultimate start, so even though he is carrying a welter weight here, this is clearly his grade and it will be surprising if he doesn’t go close again.
He hasn’t managed to score at a higher level year and contested a 0-95 handicap last time out. However, he still ran a good race when staying on well to finish fourth behind the well-backed Local Hero.
Charlie Hills has his team in good form and James Doyle takes over for the first time, so it is difficult to see a reason Cogitate can’t record his second win of the year.
7.00 Kempton: Mumayaz
Mumayaz has his first run for James Owen here and the six-year-old looks to have a good opportunity in this competitive sprint handicap.
He won twice on the all-weather last winter, so the surface won’t be an issue, and this contest looks set to be run at a fast pace, which will likely enable this habitual slow starter to close the field down in the closing stages of the race.
He is drawn in stall three, and hopefully that will enable him to track the pace on the inside of this field before gaps appear as others weaken.
Owen is better known for doing well with staying flat performers switching to hurdling, but it seems likely his talents stretch to training a sprint handicapper.
