1.30 York: Ventura Express

The Sky Bet 'Jump Jockeys' Nunthorpe' is a novelty event and an extremely difficult puzzle to solve, but my eye is drawn to sprint specialist Paul Midgley, who fields three runners, and all seem to have fared well with the draw.
All three seem to have similar chances and it is the price offered that makes me want to throw a few quid at Ventura Express. He is not the oldest in this field at nine years old and, though he is undeniably not as good as he once was, the handicapper has gradually been relenting and I feel he could go well here.
Tristan Durrell, who has his breakthrough season over jumps last season, will likely get a strong lead from Mon Na Slieve who is drawn in stall one and with luck in running, is weighted to go close at big odds.
2.00 York: Veblen Good

Finished: 4thSP: 18/1
Veblen Good ran very well in a big field 0-105 handicap over this course and distance on his only other start at this track (finishing just behind a subsequent Wokingham winner).
He has been pretty consistent since then and his only disappointment recently was when starting slowly when upped to seven furlongs.
He ran well in a much smaller field earlier this week and looks very likely to be well suited by a competitive strongly run race such as this.
Drawn very well in stall six, I feel he could be overpriced at 33-1 for one of the extra places.

2.55 Ascot: Completely Random

I have already backed Back In Black ante-post for this race and will definitely be cheering him on, but I fear a surprising lack of pace and a low draw might make life difficult for the Fanshawe runner.
I cannot back the favourite at less than 2-1 as I have a suspicion the Haggas yard is not absolutely on top form with only a 10 per cent strike from the last 50 runners, so I am looking to Completely Random to win this for Harry Charlton and Ryan Moore - who has won twice and been second on the three occasions he has been on board.
Completely Random is best known as an all-weather performer, but historically, this type goes particularly well at Ascot. The five-year-old ran a blinder to be second, beaten a short-head in the Wokingham at the Royal meeting. He has been kept for this ever since and has only been raised 4lb.
He definitely didn’t get the best of runs there and finished like a train, so it looks pretty certain he will be well suited by the extra furlong here.
4.10 Ascot: Akho Mezzna

The step up to a mile and a half looks likely to bring about improvement in Akho Mezzna who has been taking the eye staying on well over ten furlongs on his latest starts.
Both recent runs came at Sandown, a stiff right-handed track not too dissimilar to Ascot, and a steady pace in those races (which seems unlikely here) also may have hindered Jack Jones’ gelding.
There seems to be a lack of potential improvers in this race and with William Buick booked, a good run looks likely.
