Dave Nevison's Wednesday tips: Make a date with Lady Shanawell

I will be in action on Racing TV on Wednesday afternoon and am looking forward to concentrating on the Musselburgh card featuring a few old favourites as well as a couple of interesting maidens.

Below are couple of fancies on the card, plus another running at Kempton Park in the evening.

2.50 Musselburgh: Aegeus

This horse has run himself into form roughly along the same lines, generally, as his stable, and he is definitely of interest.

I am taking a very positive view of his latest effort when a close third to Destroyer over a mile at Leicester.

I was annoyed that I had lost faith in the winner and also believe the runner up put up his best performance for a while.

Aegeus does not appear to be facing rivals who are massively ahead of their mark and, only 1lb higher, he can gain an overdue success.

3.20 Musselburgh: Lady Shanawell

Watch how Lady Shanawell stayed on well to be second at Pontefract

The Ben Haslam stable has shone in the last couple of seasons. This filly contributed a couple of wins over hurdles in 2019 and very much looked as though she could further contribute on the Flat with her recent staying-on second at Pontefract.

It was her best ever run on the level and I am hoping it was rustiness that meant she was very well back in the early part of the race and was gaining fast at the line.

In my view she only needs to reproduce that effort off a 1lb higher mark to win here.

7.15 Kempton: Kitabaat

Kitabaat is a speculative selection in a really good race but at the odds forecast I can’t resist having a small interest.

I am discounting his past three runs, which have been modest to be charitable, but as a result Kitabaat is back to his last winning mark, which came over the course and distance.

It looks very likely this race will be run at a pace which is also going to suit him well and both his trainer and his promising 3lb claiming jockey are in good form.

I strongly suspect this race will provide several future winners and if Kitabaat can stay on into a place, at least, I will be very pleased.
