Dave Nevison's tips for Wednesday evening: Chinese Whisperer makes sense

The Racing TV tipster nominates three decently-priced horses on Newbury's card on Wednesday evening, live on Racing TV.

Newbury 6.10: Chinese Whisperer (at 25-1 with Bet365)

I am surprised to see this one available at such a big price as I had him firmly in my tracker after his reappearance effort at Beverley.

That race looks to me like it was above standard for the track and the winner has already followed up. Ater pulling hard early, Chinese Whisper finished very well to be fourth behind some promising types.

He has been given three weeks since that effort, so should have the freshness out of him now and he looks set to go well again. Admittedly, he is in a higher-grade race, but was an improver last term and looks as though he has more still to offer.

He has never raced on a big, straight track such as this, so I am not recommending going in deep, but he is definitely worth a look at the odds.

Newbury 6.40: Hold Still (at 11-2 with William Hill)

I was very disappointed with this one’s latest run as I had pre-empted a market move and was sat with a good price as the money piled in. As it happened, my odds were nowhere near big enough as Hold Still didn’t really figure in a slowly-run race, but he still showed enough to suggest he can win in the right grade.

He is lower rated on turf, but has been placed in good company off higher marks than the 74 he races off here. Well drawn in stall two over this round mile I just hope the ground stays decent. If so, I expect a very good run.

Newbury 8.40: Kings Royal Hussar (at 8-1 with Bet365)

Tom Marquand must have been the only beaten jockey left chuffed with himself for his ride in the Investec Derby and rightly so, but I wonder if he was feeling as pleased after he rode this one last time.

To be fair, I am certain the four-year-old is something of a reluctant hero and in a slowly-run race managed to find himself stuck in amongst rivals who weren’t stopping at Donny.

However this looks like being a well run affair and the big jump up in trip could suit him very well. Marquand who is having a brilliant season, will no doubt hold him up again, and now that he knows the horse better can steer him through a largely exposed field to score.
