Let's be honest, the weather hasn't left us with a great deal to get excited about, but the card at Catterick has beaten the elements and I'm hopeful I've chiselled out a couple of decent bets to keep us warm at the meeting - the sole action on Racing TV on Tuesday.
I can almost feel my fingers recoiling as I type this horse's name, because he has proved a gold mine for bookmakers all season long through his ability to get beat in the face of obvious chances.
However he ran his best race for a while last time, handles conditions, and is up against some rivals who have proved even more of a disappointment this year. Fortunately I have managed to resist temptation to back him most occasions so
Burmese Blazer does not owe me as much as some, and hopefully he will finally get a result here. The ability is certainly there.
It was painful to watch this one's latest run as he seemed to find every way to get into pockets - given that he is not blessed with much in the way of gears, he then simply couldn’t get going quick enough to overhaul his stablemate.
However, he was not raised in the weights for that effort which seems generous and conditions will be in his favour. There is likely to be a good pace here also, so hopefully things will work out for him. There's obviously a chance that Tor now finally comes good, but I have given him enough chances.
Having won this race last year off a mark of 78, his chance must be evident given that he comes here off the back of his best run this year and now sits on a mark of 73.
His recent short-head second came on the Fibresand at Southwell off 75, but he was only just beaten by a horse in very good form and that performance was very good. This looks a serious opportunity with underfoot conditions in his favour.
