There is an intriguing card at Newmarket on Thursday but field sizes are generally small and full of lightly raced improvers so I will be having my bets elsewhere, starting with:
It is to be expected at this time of year that some horses are beginning to show the effects of a long season and there are a few in this field who ran their worst recent races last time out.
However, some horses hit form at this late stage and
Young John certainly did last time out.
It is slightly concerning that he raced in isolation when winning at Chepstow, which may suggest he was on a faster line, but even if that was the case it still demonstrated his wellbeing.
He is still lower in the weights than he has won off in the past so looks a good bet to follow up.

Archie Watson is a trainer to look at very closely in amateur events, especially when engaging Brodie Hampson who is 6-23 in these races for the yard.
She also has also been second four times, including on this horse back in the spring.
Letmestopyouthere came back after a break last time and ran respectably despite being hampered in last furlong.
He is 3lb lower than when second at Salisbury in April, when partnered by Hampson, and has never raced off such a low mark on the all-weather.
I doubt Hollie Doyle will remember the song, originally released in 1972, but I am hoping to be humming the words with a smile on my face if this wins the last race of the evening at Chelmsford on Thursday.
This horse certainly shows no sign of losing his form and has bagged an excellent draw for a front-runner in a race where nothing else is likely to want to go on.
If
The Jean Genie gets a soft lead, then Doyle can be relied upon to hold on to enough to resist any late challenges.
