Dave Nevison's top tips for Friday: Wolves can score at Newmarket

A tough day to find bets on the channel for me which is made even tougher by the prospect of the heatwave breaking and potentially changing the ground.

My bets, especially the last two, are selected on the basis it stays quick and I may hedge my bets if it gets very wet, as there is some rain forecast before racing on Friday.

12.15 Doncaster: Mark's Choice at 4-1 with Paddy Power and Betfair

Hopefully this one will be a decent price as I am hoping he will be able to pick up the pieces and get placed at least in a race certain to be run at a scorching pace.

He can be a trailblazer himself but when running at this track, he has generally sat just off the pace and stayed on late and I hope he does the same in this race.

He is now 4lb below his latest winning mark and ran a promising enough race first time out where he suffered significant interference and was eased after.

The wide straight at Doncaster should hopefully mean he gets a clear run through this time.

3.45 Newmarket: Isle Of Wolves at 15-8 with SkyBet and Bet365

Isle Of Wolves finished second at Newbury on his seasonal debut

Jim Boyle has his horses in good form and I’d have expected him to have had a couple more winners by now, but hopefully this one will build on his reappearance effort and provide Boyle with another success.

Isle Of Wolves ran his best race on his reappearance at Newbury last time out and looked a stayer, and in a race lacking in pace, I fully expect James Doyle to be positive on him.

He is another who will be hoping the weather doesn’t break as his best performances have all been on fast ground but he looks the improver in a largely disappointing field.

3.55 Doncaster: Harrovian at 15-8 with William Hill

This horse has often been unlucky with the weather as much as anything as he is demonstrably best on fast ground, but the going has often turned against him on the day of his races.

Looking at the weather forecast, it tells me that there is a possibility of thunderstorms, which is a concern.

If it stays good to firm, I think Harrovian is a good thing here. He will certainly be suited by the likely strong pace as he showed good speed to get through gaps when winning at Yarmouth on his last victory.

It looks significant that the headgear is back on after his seasonal debut where he ran ok without getting the breaks and it's certainly interesting that Dettori hangs around for the ride in a 10k handicap.
