Dave Nevison has hit the target with Lord North (available at 10-1 when published), Iconic Code (10-1) and Gamesters Icon (11-2) this week. Find out who our top tipster likes for Friday.
This horse has already contributed to a good season for Heather Main and despite being 4lb higher than for his recent win at Newbury I believe can land this quality handicap for amateur riders.
He has a good record on a stiff straight track and you can strike out his past two efforts, at Newbury and Windsor, as he ended up on the wrong side of the track on one occasion and met significant interference on the other. He still performed well and definitely could have done better.
James Harding, his jockey, is competent and experienced. Marshal Dan’s ability to go on the ground has to be taken on trust but his half-brother won on heavy and his sire Lawman is profitable to follow on anything softer than good.
Hughie Morrison has maintained a strike rate of above 20 per cent at Southwell over the years and his runners there always merit close inspection.
Requited runs off a mark 2lb higher than the ceiling of this race which represents a class angle that I am always drawn to.
He has shown that he acts well on this surface (put up his best ever figure when winning here a year ago) and ran well back on the fibresand last time. Requited has the perfect draw in 2 and has bright prospects of making all under Charlie Bennett.
My Amigo has plummeted in the weights after a disappointing season but came back to form when second at 25-1 at Chelmsford last time and is worth backing to build on that.
He is able to run off a mark 3lb lower than at the Essex track and is now 22lb lower than at this time last year.
I don’t usually go with horses not proven at Southwell, such as My Amigo, but Marjorie Fife has a very good record at the track and so it seems likely the horse might know the surface.
Draw and trip are fine. I expect My Amigo to challenge wide and late.
