Dave Nevison's top tips for Friday: Elusive can scale heights at 25-1

A blank afternoon on the channel on Friday gives us an opportunity to look ahead to British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday and I will be part of the team in the studio previewing the six high-quality contests on Friday afternoon.

For my Friday bets, I am giving another chance to a couple of big-priced selections that I have tipped up recently and are set to run at Newcastle on Friday evening. Best of luck.

5.00 Newcastle: Kilbaha Lady at 9-1 with William Hill

Kilbaha Lady possibly got to the front a little bit too soon at Chelmsford last time and was run out of things inside the last furlong.

She is at her best when making her challenge though runners and Newcastle certainly appears to suit that running style.

A wide draw should not be a hardship given her preferred style and she has won at Newcastle under an apprentice in the past.

Despite being in good form, she is 3lb lower than her latest all-weather victory so looks poised to land another soon.

7.05 Newcastle: Futuristic at 3-1 with Ladbrokes

James Tate is in seriously good form and this looks another quality horse that has been brought along slowly and one that is likely to exploit a fair handicap mark before scaling greater heights.

He won over course and distance on his all-weather debut and almost certainly has more upside than the majority of this field.

My only concern is the draw in stall one but, provided he gets cover and does not end up exposed and racing on his own, I think he will improve past these.

7.35 Newcastle: Elusive Heights each-way at 25-1 with Bet365

This six-year-old has had two runs on turf this season with just feint promise. At Ayr last time he was drawn wide and tracked to the inside where his brief run was blocked, but he did run on again inside the final furlong.

That is obviously a positive view of the run, but he now returns to Newcastle where he ran five decent races in similar handicaps last year.

He should be at peak fitness now and is 6lb lower than his last run on the Tapeta plus 32lb lower than when joining Roger Fell. I feel sure he will not be far away here.
